National Honor Society
The object of the National Honor Society is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encourage the development of character in students of Waxahachie High School.
Membership in this local chapter is an honor bestowed upon a student. Selection for membership is by the Faculty Council in the spring of the student’s junior year. It is based on outstanding scholarship, character, leadership, and service. Once selected, members have the responsibility to continue to demonstrate these qualities

Candidates shall have spent at least one year at Waxahachie High School and shall be members of the junior or senior class. Candidates eligible for election of membership must have at least a 4.0 on the 6-pt GPA scale and at least a 3.0 on the 4-pt GPA scale. Potential members must not have any Saturday schools during the year for attendance and must not have had any days in ISS, alternative school or have been suspended during the year. The faculty and staff who have taught the candidates for the past two years will evaluate the candidates on a zero to three point system according to scholarship, service, leadership, and character. A candidate must have at least a 2.25 average on the rating to proceed further.

Meetings for members are held on the first Thursday of each month in room 107. Members are required to attend two meetings per semester to remain in good standing.

Current members must perform 25 hours of community service during their senior year in order to maintain good standing and wear the NHS stole at graduation.
